This is turning out to be quite a year for the Paspaley Pearls. It turns out that the fire did little to no damage. According to a friend in Broome, the warehouse was filled with useless old farming material stock. But it seems the good news ends there. Is Paspaley beginning to implode? Is family turning on family? It seems no management at any level is safe. The Hong Kong sales manager has left. Did she resign or was she fired? Within a few days we will hear of the fate of the CEO – John Kelly is getting the boot. He received his marching orders some time ago, and has now been demoted to pearl-farm management duties until his time is up.
Talk is up that the Aston Martin-driving brothers are lining up to take over. This scares folk in Japan. Change is not always welcome, and disarray combined with lacklustre sales and low executive morale does not paint a pretty picture of days to come.
Finally, word is out that Paspaley are dumping their natural pearl stock on the market. Why? Is this financial crisis affecting them more than immediately evident? Paspaley’s pearls have historically sold at premium. Their pearls are the best and there is no producer arguing this. They have never been the sort to sell product for less than they believe its value. So why are they rapidly selling off their cache of natural pearls, collected o’er the last 50 years, for less than half market value? Pondering that question, I can only wonder if we’re seeing an act of protectionism for their cultured production, staying afloat making a quick buck by selling off their naturals.

Our society considers the careless pursuit of riches to be not only essential but also something to be warmly approved of. We help make people stinking rich so I guess it is just punishment for us dumb working-class philistines(not me) that the rich turn themselves into such assholes and grate on our nerves so much.
What's this? Nicky has a brother?
If indeed it's true that John Kelly is being replaced by Nick's Aston Martin driving son, then good luck, Paspaley! As we say: First generation makes the start-up, Second generation the build-up, Third generation the f#@k-up! JK, walk away fast, and don't look back!
Pearl-Professor dudes!
Where do you guys dig this stuff up??
;)
"Their pearls are the best and there is no producer arguing this."???
The other big players in the Australian industry seem to think otherwise...
That sounds just like Pas propaganda....you're not involved in marketing pearls for Paspaley are you pearl professor?
I must not have read the Professor's article correctly. Olga has to get serious and try to quit her woeful late night premium vodka imbibing habit whilst merrily reading about the misfortunes of the stinking rich. Not yet though.
Oh, he has SONS!
John Kelly, one of the few good people that were left in management in Paspaley.
I feel sorry that he is still there and being used.
The Pearl Industry will never change, beautiful silver white Orbs in exchange for your soul.

Others say "shirt sleeve to shirt sleeve in 3 generations" ;)
Even in the good times, Paspaley's ostentation was remarkable, matched only by Mikimoto's. Since neither saved up for hard times, and instead, committed to expanding their markets rapidly, gambling that growth is forever, the wolves are at the doors today.
How did they come by the naturals? Did they found them in their cultivated pearls oysters?
why does everyone sing John Kelly's favor . Kelly headed the Paspaley wolf pack for years trying to suppress every other small producer in the WA industry by any means possible, especially political . The goal, to gobble up every other company until they were the only ones left.Too bad , what goes round comes round The Napoleon complex. After the Russian winter aspirations slightly subdued.
Hmmm, maybe the pratice of beating out the competition isn't your idea of good business practice.
Are you making any money?
Get real, JK had a job to do and did it well.
There is always someone who wants to knock down the efforts of successful people....
Unsuccessful people maybe!
Actually darlings ,sorry i'm a bit late and missed all the gossip but Johnny Boy has actually been boning the gal in Honkers sorry to tell you Lovers of Mr Kelly. It was a bit of a joke around the smaller pearl farmers table who wanted to ring his Mrs and tell her in retaliation for all the abuse suffered at Johnny boys rants at PPA meetings.PEARL PRODUCERS ASSOCIATION for those that dont know
I really love to drool on those pearls from Paspaley's website. Pearls are the most photogenic of gems aren't they?
Any news about the south sea June auctions, or maybe nobody goes anymore.

Honkers? Is that the equivalent of Hooters in Australia?
Honkers, sorry its hong kong actually if you read the profs article he refers to their (Paspaley)Hong Kong sales manager getting the flick (sack). That is the one Johnny boy has been Rogering.
If JK's job was to run the company down ,set a poor moral standard and set work mates against each other, He did a good job!
Kailis wouldn't be where it was today without JK...
OOps ...where are they??????
Now that Kailis has been brought into the conversation it isn't fair to blame it on JK. You only need to look at the efforts of a certain Steve O'Keefe, the previous General Damager, whose best efforts resulted in a complete breakdown of morale and initiative within the company and with whomever he came into contact . It was his foresight and business acumen that helped to lead Kailis into the maws of the Paspaley juggernaut where he soon found himself totally out of his depth. The rest is history.
JK always wanted Broome Pearls as his own....and the Kelly Gang moved on.....isn't Ned's head in a jar somewhere for prosperity?
oh I guess thats His...tory now.

Drool helps get awesome photographs, does it? So that's the secret...
Hi Drool and Listen,
May I suggest you reach for a bucket.
By the way, Drool and Listen, I own several Paspaley Taravalis (100 inches 8mm+ rounds in white, black, peach, and lavender respectively) and whenever I wear one, husbands are asking for drool buckets for their wives. That should tell you something.
