I received a post this morning from a Mr. Trotta of Boston, USA, who runs a pearl store on Museum Way. He sent me a link to an interesting article from Charleston, Calling All Girls with Pearls. The High Hopes fundraising committee is calling for girls to donate their pearls to create some magnificent ensemble to auction off at an event. Petit Jewellery Designs has agreed to put together this one-of-a-kind ensemble. They are requesting either cultured or freshwater pearls. I know, I know, freshwater pearls are cultured too. I didn’t write the bloody thing.
I’m keen to see this finished ensemble of pearls. Designing a piece with odds and ends, most likely reject pearls, by a designer who differentiates between cultured and freshwater, is a recipe for a jolly concoction.
If any readers have an extra pearl or two (or 3000) they feel like dumping into this prize pool, pearls can be delivered to Petit Jewellery Designs at 1012 ½ Bridge Road, Charleston, West Virginia, 25314 USA. The only catch, pearls must be there by Monday! It would be amusing to dump a few kilo of pearl on these blokes. There wouldn’t be anything petit about that ensemble.

This blog is turning into the shit back stabbing gossippy microcosm of the Australian Pearling Industry. Why the hell do people have to defend themselves about private issues that have nothing to do with pearling. If everyone got on, we probably wouldn't be in half as much shit as we are. Why not use this blog to better our knowledge and relationship between all facets of pearling, farm, wholesalers, jeweller and parasites rather than bagging other people, good people, professional people who do the job that is required.
You can't make an omelette without breaking a few eggs.
Grow up you bitches.

The facts are in the blog. The snarks are in the comments. Are you the Prof? You can moralize but no one has to listen.
A really good place to make friends is over at the pearl-guide.com. No snarking allowed, just discourse.
Over here, it's snark city, but some of the comments are very sophisticated and funny.
I always wanted to learn how to knot pearls because I have lots of freshwater pearl strands and bracelets. Luckily freshwater pearls here are so cheap that buying new is cheaper than fixing the old ones.
So what I did with the pearls from a broken nylon strand?
I grind them to powder and use them to exfoliate my beautiful skin and also drank them as my calcium supplement. It turns out they are also cheaper than medicine.

best way I know of to fill up on those essential toxic heavy metal nutrients like lead and mercury.could also contain significant traces of rare elements like bleach and lusterizers.
Did you drink the powder before the exfoliation or after? I ask bcoz if you drank it after, it would also contain some protein and essential fatty acids, among other things. The average Joe would be incredibly surprised to know that facial grime is rich with nutrients needed by the body, especially if you live in a very polluted city.It is perhaps a good way to get your omega 3's and 6's which seem to be lacking in the modern diet of people everywhere today. You would also be doing the earth a big favor by recycling. Just a thought.
