I found it quite interesting. If I recall there was a difference in the amount of vaterite found in kasumigaura pearls and Chinese freshwater. It was always found in Chinese fresh, not only sometimes in the Japanese. Vaterite apparently is most often found near the center of a pearl, suggesting it is an early-stage, developmental component.
